Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a versatile treatment used in a variety of conditions including allergies, anxiety, pancreatitis, arthritis and general weakness in pets of all ages and species. This therapy involves the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at strategic points on the body called acupuncture points.

Experience Acupuncture at Home

Our certified veterinary acupuncture practitioners will perform treatment right in the comfort of your own home. When needles are placed at specific points in the body, nerves are stimulated in a specific way to change blood flow, boost the immune system, relax muscles and release the body’s natural analgesia from the brain. Most pets enjoy the feeling of needle placement and will relax once the session has begun.

Integration with Existing Treatments

Acupuncture can be used well in conjunction with medications, supplements and diets for better outcomes and can reduce overall medication dosing. At Treatwell, our approach uses a blend of theory and techniques from both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine ensuring the most holistic care for your pet.

For example, when acupuncture is used for arthritis, it creates pointed changes in the body to reduce pain and increase blood flow to muscles. Feeling better allows your pet to move more frequently and with a greater range of motion, improving your pet’s quality of life as well as helping them get stronger. Acupuncture can be used for many other conditions as well. Contact us for a virtual consultation to see if acupuncture is a good fit for your pet.

Acupuncture FAQ

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at strategic points on the body called acupuncture points. A key component of Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat acute or chronic pain but can also be used as an additional treatment for common ailments including kidney and liver disease, pancreatitis, allergic dermatitis and anxiety.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

A blend of theory and technique from both Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine is used in treatment. When needles are placed at specific points in the body, nerves are stimulated in a specific way to change blood flow, boost the immune system, relax muscles, and release the body’s natural analgesia from the brain.

Will Acupuncture Help My Pet?

Acupuncture, for example, when used for arthritis, creates pointed changes in the body to reduce pain and increase blood flow to muscles. Feeling better allows the pet to move more frequently and with a greater range of motion, allowing for the building of strength and overall greater quality of life. Acupuncture can be used for many other conditions as well. Contact us for a virtual consultation to see if acupuncture is a good fit for your pet.

How Will My Pet React to Having Acupuncture Needles Placed?

Most pets are indifferent or enjoy needle placement. The needles are very small and the effects of acupuncture feel good, contributing to a feeling of relaxation. Pet parents are part of the process, often holding, feeding treats, or cuddling to give a sense of security, especially during the first visit.
